Clubhouse Season Changes: Hello Fall

In case you're new around here, you should know that the Clubhouse is located in the Arizona desert. This means we do seasons differently around here. Leaves don't fall off of a cactus, and we don't have to take out the long sleeved shirts and pants until sometime in December.

This doesn't mean we don't thoroughly enjoy the sights, scents and simple pleasures of the Fall season though. We just have to bring them to us.

What better way to do that than in a basket?

Some of the things currently in our Fall Fun Basket are;

  • Fall Leaves
  • Cinnamon Scented Natural Pine cones
  • Small Pine Cones
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • Craft Straw, Green and Natural
  • Corn Husks (left over from a Hispanic Heritage Month activity, post coming soon;)
  • Green Hair Gel
  • Plastic Baggies
  • Mini green tin buckets
  • Scissors
  • Glue Sticks

  • The Clubhouse Kids took their time exploring what was in the basket, and then had no problem deciding what they wanted to do first.

An old Clubhouse favorite, our DIY Sensory Bag Creation Station definitely honed some sensory bag experts here. They got right to work adding hair gel to baggies.

When they decided that "this green isn't green enough", I had to get the green food coloring.

A few drops, seal the bag, smash it all together, and they had the shade they wanted.

Then they got right to work slipping in leaves and carefully inserting a few small pine cones.

While they worked we talked about seasons and how the weather will change..."from really hot to just kinda hot."

Realizing how long the straw was, they started cutting it to add it into their bags.

Wasn't long before the Pumpkin Pie Spice was discovered, sniffed and sprinkled into bags. Mmmmm, now that's what Fall smells like!

They thoroughly enjoyed making the bags, and I do believe they will be making more (once I replenish the hair gel in the basket, of course).

Just one simple activity from our Fall Fun Basket, but it was definitely a good one!

I have a variety of other things that will be added to our basket. Small pumpkins (real, and artificial) , other spices (ginger, nutmeg, etc.), cinnamon sticks, and whatever other "Fall-y" type items that I stumble upon and think the Clubhouse Kids could do something with.

The idea is that as the basket continues to be filled and replenished, the Clubhouse Kids will be able to explore and decide what to do next. Today, sensory bags. Tomorrow, I have a feeling the activity is going to involve glue sticks ;)

Even in the desert, Fall is in the air.. or rather, in the bag!

Ms. Liz
